Recall Appointments
Continuing care
Every patient has their recall appointment in the hygienists room.
There is a protocol of:
- Updating your personal details, email, address and phone so that we can stay in touch with you
- Updating your medical history. This is important in two respects: Firstly, a changed medical history may change how the treatment is done to prevent medical complications. Secondly, we may have treatment strategies to improve your medical condition
- Review if any X-rays are required. These may be part of a routine check or to review past treatments
- Review if there are any outstanding treatment plans
- Your hygienist will ask if you have any concerns or if you are simply attending a continuing care appointment
- Your hygienist will examine and determine if they have any concerns that may need treatment
- Your dentist will then enter the hygienist’s surgery and be briefed on all of the above. Then your dentist will carry out an examination, ask you any relevant questions and then formulate a treatment plan for any treatment to be done by both your dentist and your hygienist
Providing quality care and unrivalled service.
During your recall appointment
Your hygienist will provide:
- Intra and extra oral cancer and general soft tissue screen
- Dental health education tailored to your individual needs
- Radiographs are taken when necessary
- Periodontal exam and treatment required which usually involves removal of calculus and plaque
- Cosmetic enhancement which involves removing stains on teeth and polishing existing fillings
- Taking a holistic approach, evaluating your diet and generally maintaining the health of the oral cavity which can positively affect general body health. Gum disease is linked to heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and many other systemic conditions
- A comprehensive continuing care program where your recall appointment may be every 3, 4, 6 or 12 months
- If you have ongoing periodontal disease please see periodontal treatment
